Ethical conduct is required of authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher at every stage of the publication process.
Authors’ Responsibilities
-
Originality and Attribution: Submissions must be original and appropriately reference prior work. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is not permitted.
-
Data Integrity: Data must be accurate, reproducible, and transparently reported. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting is unacceptable.
-
Exclusive Submission: Manuscripts must not be under consideration elsewhere and should not constitute redundant or salami publication.
-
Authorship: Authorship is limited to those who made substantial scholarly contributions. All authors must approve the final manuscript. Authorship changes require documented consent.
-
Ethical Approval: Studies involving humans, animals, or sensitive data must provide approval from relevant ethics committees.
-
Conflicts of Interest: All financial or non-financial conflicts must be disclosed.
Editors’ Responsibilities
-
Impartial Assessment: Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, originality, relevance, and clarity.
-
Confidentiality: Manuscripts and reviewer information are treated as confidential.
-
Conflicts of Interest: Editors recuse themselves from handling submissions with conflicts.
-
Decision Authority: Final decisions are informed by peer review and ethical compliance.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
-
Confidentiality: Manuscripts are confidential and may not be shared.
-
Objectivity: Reviews should be fair, constructive, and evidence-based.
-
Ethical Vigilance: Reviewers should report suspected misconduct and disclose conflicts; assignments should be declined if unsuitable.
Misconduct, Corrections, and Retractions
-
Investigation: Allegations are assessed in line with COPE guidance.
-
Actions: May include rejection, correction, retraction, notification of institutions, or submission restrictions.
-
Corrections/Retractions: Corrections address minor errors; retractions address serious ethical breaches or invalid findings.
